The Indian Army’s Eastern Command HQ is located at Fort William, in the heart of Kolkata (formerly Calcutta). The HQ was recently presented with a MiG-21FL (Type 77) fighter, serial number C-1151.

MiG-21 C-1151 was one of the last airworthy FLs operated by the IAF. It was noted flying as part of the now famous ‘all type MiG-21’ formation during Exercise Iron Fist 2013. Its operational history is not known, but it is generally assumed to be a Post 71 war airframe.

The aircraft was formally presented by the Chief of Air Staff, Air Chief Marshal Arup Raha during his visit to the east on 15th March 2014.
