Dakota BJ1045 was originally in Sambre, Belgaum, before it was moved to Yelhanka

In April 2016, The IAF moved a Dakota aircraft that was on display in Belgaum all the way to Yelahanka and erected it right behind the main gate/guard room.

BJ-1045 was a C-47A-DL that previously held the civilian registration VT-CME. The aircraft came off ex-USAAF stocks as 43-15810. During its civilian career, it donned the colours of Dharbanga Aviation.

It was inducted into the IAF on 25th April 1963, and likely served around 20 years before its retirement and subsequent preservation at Sambre in Belgaum.

The photo dates from October 2023 and it the display shows the pride with which Air Force Station Yelahanka treats the aircraft. After all, the Dakota was the main aircraft that flew when the Transport Training Wing operated in the 1960s. BJ-1045 is the perfect example to be showcased on the airfield.
