A few years ago Sanjay Simha sent us these photographs of a Sea Hawk that was displayed in Raipur. The Sea Hawk is shown at Tatibandh Chowk in the western suburbs of Raipur city in Chattisgarh. The aircraft first appeared in November 2015 or whereabouts.

The Sea Hawk’s identity is IN244 – which was previously displayed as a Gate Guard in Marmagoa. And during its stint there, it seemed to have been well maintained and cared for.. But not so here!

A sea hawk fighter plane of Indian Navy would be very soon the pride of Raipur city. The Ministry of Defence (MoD) has provided clearance to put a sea hawk fighter plane for permanent public display in the city, Raipur City Mayor Kiranmayee Nayak informed here on Wednesday.

The Mayor said that the sea hawk plane would be source of inspiration especially for youths. The plane would be on permanent display at Tatibandh Chowk. A letter of consent in this connection from Assistant Chief Naval Staff (Air) of Indian Navy was received in Mayor’s office on Wednesday. The letter was dispatched by MoD dated July 31, 2014, Nayak said.

The RMC officials have been directed to contact Western Naval Command, Mumbai for further action, she informed. Expressing happiness over accepting the request of providing a sea hawk, Nayak said the plane would inspire youth to join Indian Navy and serve the nation.

The aircraft had to be removed for metro work going on in Raipur. Its current location is not known.
