Canberra IF-910, Lohegaon Air Force Station
Lohegaon had been a
permanent Airbase for Canberras from the time they were inducted till the time they
reached the twilight of thier career. Besides Agra, Lohegaon is the only airbase to share
the distinction of hosting the Canberra units for nearly two decades. One of the parent
Squadrons here was No.35 Squadron. In the later years No.6 Maritime Squadron operated a
flight of Canberra B66s till the early 90s.

Canberra B(I) 58 IF-910 displayed inside the airbase, this
aircraft is in excellent condition and is mounted on jacks. |
It is no surprise that
there are two Canberras preserved in Pune. One on Lohegaon airbase itself, the second in
the city. Canberra B(I)58 IF-910 is displayed inside the airbase, just behind the ATC
Building. The place of display is not a permanent measure. It looks like a 'spot' was
allocated on the tarmac and the Canberra moved into place and mounted on jacks. The
Canberra is cordoned off with some metal posts driven into the concrete and chained off.
| Close up of the front fuselage of IF-910
shows no stenciling or paint markings. All of them presumably overpainted while applying
the 'Grey' scheme. |

Rear three-quarter view of IF-910
shows the roundel and the false serial number 'F-910' |
IF-910 is painted the dull
IAF Grey. It appears to be in excellent condition. But the serial applied on it curiously
says only F-910. Since there was no F910 in Indian service, it is believed that
IF-910 is the closest match and hence the correct identity..
