Haryana is a state in northern India. It is bordered by Punjab and Himachal Pradesh to the north, and by Rajasthan to the west and south. Eastern border to Uttarakhand & Uttar Pradesh is defined by river Yamuna. Haryana also surrounds Delhi on three sides, forming the northern, western and southern borders of Delhi. Consequently, a large area of Haryana is included in the National Capital Region. The capital of the state is Chandigarh which is administered as a union territory and is also the capital of Punjab.

    Ambala was one of the oldest and largest airbase inherited from the British for the IAF. The then Advanced Flying Training School operating from there used to operate Harvards and Spitfires. Later on, Ambala AFS operated Vampires, Toofanis, Mysteres and Hunters in a combat role. It was from this airbase that Spitfires and Harvards flown by Instructors took part in the early days of fighting in the Srinagar valley in the 1947-48 Kashmir Operations. Today the Airbase houses 7 Wing operating Jaguars and  MiG-21 Bisons.

    The Punjab Engineering College (Deemed University) Chandigarh was orginally established as Mugalpura Engineering College at Lahore (now in Pakistan) on November 9, 1921. The name of the college was later changed to Maclagan Engineering College and its started functioning under the name on March 19, 1924. In the year 1931, the college got affiliated to Punjab University, Lahore. After partition in 1947, the college was shifted to Roorkee (India) and was renamed as East Punjab College of Engineering. In the year 1950 the word East was dropped and it came to know by its present name - Punjab Engineering College.

    The term "Air Force Station" applies to all Indian Air Force establishments at Chandigarh. The largest of these is No.12 Wing, AF, which is centered around the airfield.  Co-located at the airfield is No.3 Base Repair Depot.
