M24 Chafee at Hasimara Air Force Station

The Officers Mess at Air Force Station Hashimara features an Ouragan fighter as well as a captured M24 Chafee tank. The tank was presented by Lt Gen ML Thapan of XXXIII Corps after its capture in the 1971 war.

The Plaque on the memorial reads:

This battle tank of american origin came into service in 1944-45, was in with pakistan army, chaffee was manned by four member crew. it has a weight of 17.5 tons, was powered by a CADILLAC engine and could travel at speed of 35Kmph, it's armament comprised of one 75mm gun, a 0-30 degree machine gun, a 0-30 degree hull gun and 0-50 degree ack ack gun. The Tank was captured by Indian Army during the 1971 operation leading to liberation of Bangladesh and presented by Lt Gen NL Tahpan GOC 33 Corps to Gp Capt KP Mishra and all ranks of Air Force Station, Hasimara
