Assam
The North Eastern Area of India comprises of the states of Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Manipur, Tripura and Nagaland. The entire area is the responsiblity of Eastern Air Command [EAC] with its HQ at Shillong. EAC maintains airbases at Calcutta, Panagarh, Kalaikunda , Barrackpore, Bagdogra, Hashimara (All in West Bengal), Jorhat, Chabua, Gauhati, Tezpur, (All in Assam), Shillong (Meghalaya) and some "Advanced Landing Grounds" as in Walong (Arunachal Pradesh), Mohanbari and Vijaynagar. Guwahati
Guwahati (Assamese: গুৱাহাটী, spelled as Guwāhāti - with diacritics) formerly known as Gauhati is a metropolis and is the largest city of Assam in India, with a population of 1,100,000 (2011 census). It is also the largest metropolis in the north-east region of India. It is said to be the "Gateway" of the North East Region. Dispur, the capital of the Indian state of Assam, is located within the city is the seat of Government of Assam.
